Family and Education

The Assyrians

Our main society element was Family and Education. The core question this group answered was, “Are the roles of the families in Graded different from the roles in Brazil?”, which was a modification of the core element question of, “What are the roles of men, woman and children?”

At Graded, the roles of the family here are very different from the roles of the family in Brazil. For instance, the salary of the many people in Brazil often can’t support their families. But in Graded, the salaries are fair, even, and respect Brazilian laws. Workers have rights. The families here earn lots of money. In Graded, the woman have equal rights to men. Here, woman are equally respected as men. There is no difference between them. But in Brazil, woman sometime are disrespected and sometimes made fun of. They are seen as weak. Kids sometimes live in favelas and have to work. Education is not as important as money that is brought in. Kids have to work to live. There is the ECA law in Brazil, though, to help protect children from people who will hurt them. In Graded, all children have an education and are respected. Children are treated well, but sometimes they are spoiled. We found that Graded school does not reflect the bigger Brazilian society.
